Rebuttal to Argument Against Proposition 200

As a member of the CHP for 31 years, including 7 as director, I saw first hand the suffering caused by automobile accidents and uninsured drivers. Proposition 200, the No Fraud Auto Insurance Initiative, will GUARANTEE that people injured in car accidents will get benefits for medical bills, lost wages and rehabilitation costs.

Proposition 200 will end the plague of uninsured drivers. The Department of Motor Vehicles will not be able to register vehicles unless owners have insurance. And good, basic auto insurance will FINALLY be affordable for everyone. This sensible plan was NOT put on the ballot by insurance companies. It was put there by consumers and businessmen tired of paying too much so lawyers can earn $2.5 billion a year.

Your insurance rates WILL go down. Only Michigan has a no-fraud law like this one. In Michigan they pay FAR less and get VASTLY better protection. Everywhere else, lawyers have used their influence to water down or sabotage reform.

Under Proposition 200, fault will be determined. If an accident is your fault, you get ticketed and your insurance rates increase. But if you weren't at fault, Proposition 200 FORBIDS insurers from raising your rates. Proposition 200 will insure you are paid without having to sue. And your doctor still WILL determine your care.

Proposition 200 guarantees that savings from cutting lawsuits and fraud WILL go to consumers by subjecting insurers to tough rate regulation.

Everyone knows California auto insurance is a mess. Proposition 200 fixes it.
