I think that civil liberties and worker rights should both be expanded. Laws interfering with Americans’ right to free speech should be repealed. Workers should be compensated with extra pay for working on weekends, in which they would be payed at a rate of “time and a half” for working on Saturdays and “double time” for working on Sundays. Overtime pay should be at a rate of “double time” instead of the current “time and a half” and should be paid for any work performed in excess of an eight hour workday. Workers injured on the job should automatically receive a small amount of extra pay to be compensated for pain and suffering, and if the insurance company tries to block any benefits, that should open it up for a lawsuit. On top of that, if a worker has to hire an attorney to retain worker compensation benefits, then the insurance company should have to pay for those attorney fees. It is my belief that the current “Social Security” system should be replaced with a “Universal Social Security” system, in which everyone would receive a basic minimum income, so that everybody would be guaranteed the right to live a comfortable life. A democratic referendum should be presented to the Iraqi people asking if our troops should stay or withdraw. There has been more and more talk of reinstating the military draft, so I would like to see an amendment to the United States Constitution passed that would outlaw the draft.

I am a union president, anti-war organizer and national presidential candidate of the Party for Socialism and Liberation. My vice-presidential candidate is Eugene Puryear. In 1994 and 1998, I was Peace and Freedom Party’s candidate for California governor. The war in Iraq must be ended now and U.S. troops brought home from more than 100 countries around the world. My campaign calls for an end to intervention, blockades and sanctions against Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, Korea, Palestine, Sudan and elsewhere. The huge Pentagon budget should be used to meet people’s needs. As a labor activist, I know firsthand the deteriorating wages and benefits millions of workers are facing today. My campaign calls for a $15/hour minimum wage, strengthening union rights, healthcare for all, free education through college, and a moratorium on foreclosures and evictions – housing is a right! As a child of a Mexican immigrant, I know the oppression immigrant workers face. Yet they contribute greatly to society. My campaign supports full rights for all, and an end to raids and deportations. As a beneficiary of affirmative action, I know it is needed to overcome longstanding racism and sexism. My campaign opposes mass imprisonment and police brutality, and supports reproductive rights for women, same-sex marriage rights, and equality for all regardless of nationality, religion, gender or sexual orientation. The choice for the future is clear: Either exploitation of the world for the profits of a few, or an ecologically sustainable economy based on meeting people’s needs – socialism.

Estimados Camaradas/Esteemed Comrades, I am running as the favorite son candidate for the San Joaquin Valley. I have been a member of the Peace and Freedom Party since November of 2004 and I am the Chair of the Fresno County Central Committee. I was instrumental in the creation of the San Joaquin Valley Chapter representing the Counties of Mariposa, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Tulare, Kings and Kern. I am the only candidate on the presidential ballot who is a resident of the San Joaquin Valley. Grounded firmly on Socialism, Feminism and the Platform of the Peace and Freedom Party, my campaign and your vote will provide a voice for the people of the San Joaquin Valley at the Peace and Freedom Party's nominating convention in August. A vote for me will be recognized as a vote for the interests and concerns of the people of the San Joaquin Valley and a commitment to the principles of socialism and feminism.

We need to end the war now.  We need to protect the rights and improve the pay of workers, and secure the future of their families.  We need to lift the tax burden from workers, and shift it onto the most prosperous Americans and the big corporations (both American and foreign-owned) that dominate our economy.  We need to end the corrupt misrule of this country by the representatives of great wealth, and return power to the people. One important way to further these goals is by expanding the Peace and Freedom Party nationwide, making it an important voice in our country’s affairs.  This is why, after nomination by Peace and Freedom Party for California Lieutenant Governor in the 2006 election, I agreed to campaign nationally in 2008. While my name is on the ballot for President in this primary, I am already nominated by the Socialist Party USA for Vice President, and that nomination is in process with other groups in several states.  Overly-restrictive state rules forbid me telling you here who my running mate is, but you may go on the Internet to StewartAlexanderCares.com for details.  A vote for either of us tells the State Convention to place our ticket on the ballot in November. Besides nomination by existing parties, I will run in additional states as a Peace and Freedom Party nominee, spreading the name and platform of our party across the country.  Thank you for your help!

Cynthia McKinney served 12 years in the United States Congress. There, she proved to be a courageous voice for the voiceless, speaking truth to power. She authored legislation that would have: eliminated federal subsidies for corporations taking jobs overseas; instituted a national livable wage; repealed the Military Tribunals Act; provided for national forest protection and restoration; eliminated the use of depleted uranium weapons; denied federal assistance to law enforcement agencies violating human rights; allowed 9/11/2001 victims the right to participate in the Victims Compensation Fund and sue those responsible; and impeached Bush, Cheney, and Rice. McKinney successfully extended Agent Orange benefits an additional 25 years; authorized the USDA disparity study that demonstrated USDA discrimination against minority farmers, and directed the Pentagon to study how it handled conscientious objection. Cynthia will implement radical common sense solutions to America's myriad problems. With a view toward the long term, she asks us all to be willing to do some things we've never done before in order to have some things we've never had before. The Power to the People Committee is Cynthia's way of proving what Bobby Kennedy said so long ago: "Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope; and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance."
