Nader Shahatit | DEMOCRATIC

Taxes are complicated. We need a board of tax professionals, not career politicians. We are weaponizing taxes to penalize innovation; rather than incentivizing businesses to grow. Count on me to uphold proposition 13. As a Tax Consultant with over three decades of experience, I respectfully welcome the opportunity to earn your vote, regardless of your political preference

Ted Gaines

Jose S. Altamirano | DEMOCRATIC

I humbly ask for your vote to represent you on the Board of Equalization. For almost 32 years, I have worked at the California State Compensation Insurance Fund, assisting policyholders with their workers' compensation insurance needs, first as an Underwriting Manager, then as Assistant Program Manager, Interim VP of the Customer Service Center and most recently as the Business Services Operations Manager. Each of those roles has taught me the special nature of public service and public trust when your taxpayer dollars are involved. I have been involved in my community as a Commissioner with the City of West Sacramento, as the Chair of UC Davis Health Community Advisory Board and as a Board Member, Sacramento Cottage Housing Inc., a non-profit helping individuals and families transition from homelessness to self-sustainability. My education has been an amazing journey. I am the proud product of the L.A. Unified School District. In 1994, I relocated to Northern California where I earned my AA/AS from Sierra College, my B.S. in Applied Economics from the University of San Francisco, and my MBA in Finance from Drexel University. My family and my life have instilled in me a personal code of ethics built on the qualities of being fair, equitable, and inclusive. As the first Hispanic to serve in the 1st District, I am ready to bring this same commitment and dedication to serving all taxpayers. I again ask for your support and your vote for Jose Altamirano, Board of Equalization, 1st District.

Connie Conway

Braden Murphy | DEMOCRATIC

I'm a proud middle-class husband and father of four. While property taxes provide vital government funding, the property tax system hits the middle-class hard and prevents people from being homeowners. I believe it's time to make giant corporations pay their fair share and return fairness to California's property tax system. Please vote for me so I can fight for you.

Sally J. Lieber

Sally J. Lieber | DEMOCRATIC

My name is Sally Lieber. I am a corporate-free candidate running to represent you on the Board of Equalization. The Board oversees property taxes and other revenues for our State. Too often it's a place where big money interests drown out the voices of average Californians. It shouldn't be that way. I will fight to ensure that everyday people are heard; that our tax system is fair and equitable for homeowners, renters, people living with disabilities, small businesses, and communities of color; that utilities and other big money interests pay their fair share; and that every state agency works to combat climate change. My accomplishments in public office show that I care about people. In the California State Assembly, I authored legislation that raised the minimum wage, created new environmental protections, and made more CalGrant scholarships available to deserving college students. As Councilwoman and Mayor of the City of Mountain View, I helped build affordable housing for teachers; blocked Big Tobacco from advertising near schools; opened new childcare and senior services for working families; and worked to ensure the rights of youth in foster care. I am the only candidate in this race that has balanced budgets and cut unnecessary spending at both the state and local level. I am proud that my work in the State Legislature has earned a 100% lifetime rating from the Sierra Club, the California League of Conservation Voters, the Congress of California Seniors, the Consumer Federation of California, Equality California, and Planned Parenthood. But I know that the most important stamp of approval comes from you. I respectfully ask for your vote.

Michela Alioto-Pier

Michela Alioto-Pier | DEMOCRATIC

I am Michela Alioto-Pier and I respectfully ask to represent you on the Board of Equalization. I'm a small business owner, disability rights advocate and mother of three. I want to help Californians recover from COVID-19 and ensure a sound financial foundation for our future. I come from a family of immigrants who worked along the San Francisco waterfront and up the coast of Northern California. Now, as a Napa Valley grape grower, I've seen firsthand the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and global-warming induced fires. I will work to combat these and other challenges to California's environment, economy and families. As a two-term member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors I emphasized job growth and economic development. I established San Francisco's Office of Economic Impact, created the City's first Economic Stimulus Plan and launched a Biotech Payroll Tax Exemption and Film Rebate Program, all of which created thousands of new jobs. As a White House Deputy Domestic Policy Advisor for Vice President Al Gore, I advised on important federal initiatives on technology, job growth, education, the environment and disability rights. As your voice on the Board of Equalization, I will ensure that our property tax programs are fair and equitable. I will ensure that the State of California receives the revenues needed to address the many challenges we face in the future, without further burden to individuals, small businesses and families. California leaders like U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein and State Treasurer Fiona Ma support my candidacy. Please join us!

Randell R. Economyn

Randell R. Economy | REPUBLICAN

I have been fighting to make California better my entire life. As an investigative journalist I helped expose the biggest corruption scandal in Los Angeles County history, that lead to the criminal indictments of four members of the Assessor office that resulted in saving taxpayers millions of dollars. I stood up to California Governor Gavin Newsom when I served as the Senior Advisor and Official Spokesman for the recent recall campaign. I conducted more than 2,500 media interviews exposing his draconian policies while he dined maskless at one of the most expensive restaurants on the planet. I care deeply about our state and as your representative on the Board of Equalization I will work to put the California taxpayers first. Family budgets are being wiped out by hyperinflation. Radical politicians have destroyed the California Dream. It stops now. I Support local businesses. l support Pandemic Relief for those businesses who have been destroyed by Political Lockdowns. I was born in Hawthorne, California in 1960 at a community hospital called Holly Park. I am also the grandson of an amazing proud Greek immigrant who came to America around 1900 to "Live the American Dream." My life has been a great training ground up to this point, and now I am ready to make California government more accountable to all the people. Join me, and yes, this campaign really is about the economy! Randy Economy www.Economy4BOE.com

John F. Kelly

John F. Kelly | REPUBLICAN

Dear Voter, my commitment to you as a disciple of the famous tax-fighter, Howard Jarvis, of Proposition 13 fame, is to continue in his footsteps to fairly and equitably execute the original charter of the BOE. The BOE has become a tool of the left in our state and tarnished its purpose. Winners never quit, and quitters never win and on that sentiment that this is my third run for the BOE. I am a life-long conservative who is persistent. You must be concerned by Milquetoast characters cavorting around claiming to be tax fighters. I promise to be an advocate for you and to use this office to be a bully pulpit seeking improvements in the way taxpayers are served. As a former councilman, I understand the importance of fair treatment for persons and business interests before the BOE. Howard Jarvis won his crusade to protect us all from omnivorous taxation and the passage of Proposition 13. I am the only candidate who for nearly four decades has been in the trenches as a brick and mortar merchant subject to the various tax obligations imposed by the state legislature. I grew up pulling my own bootstraps, which is a testimony of my upbringing. Proposition 13 will become extinct if California retailers are not protected. My solemn promise to you is to be honest, hardworking, and a loyal servant. I am not a career politician. This is not a stop to another office. Thank you, John F. Kelly
