I'm in this campaign because I love this country. I spent 34 years in uniform defending it. Then, for the last three years, I watched with dismay as America lost millions of jobs, the respect of the world and faith in our government. We need to turn America around. We need to clean up the mess in Iraq. I have a success strategy to do just that. We can turn the situation around, and win the war, by ending the American monopoly, changing the force mix, and giving Iraqis a greater stake in their success. We also need to focus on the domestic challenges. My Turnaround Plan for America lays out specific benchmarks for success. I believe leadership entails setting ambitious goals and meeting them. In the Army, I fought to make sure my soldiers had top-notch health care, affordable housing and first-class schools for their kids. I want to do the same thing for all Americans. My job creation plan will increase family incomes by $3,000 by the end of my first term. My environmental plan will prevent 100,000 premature deaths by toughening pollution standards. My education plan will enable one million more students to enter college, and provide Universal Preschool for all four year olds. And my health care plan will extend coverage to 30 million uninsured Americans. As President, I will always put the nation's interests before the special interests, and I will work to make sure that opportunity is available for all Americans.

Today, many people feel disconnected from a government which serves powerful special interests instead of ordinary Americans. They are afraid America is becoming more and more distrusted across the world, and they worry that they may always be struggling just to make ends meet. People believe something has gone wrong in America, and they're afraid they don't have the power to make it right. Our campaign has grown into more than a quest for the presidency. We've grown into the largest grassroots organization presidential politics has ever seen. We have been joined by millions and are funded by hundreds of thousands of ordinary Americans, not special interests. People have begun a movement to revitalize our political process and restore our sense of community and our confidence in government. We are working to build a future with new possibilities: health care for all Americans, quality public education and higher education for all Americans, a new energy economy, a renaissance of small businesses, and a foreign policy based on American values. Most importantly, we seek to put our government and economy back in the hands of the people. Together we can restore a government of, by and for the people, but this change can only happen from the ground up - not through my actions, but yours. Vote to join us.

I am running for president because I want to offer America a new politics of possibility and opportunity. Americans are sick of politicians yelling at each other; they want a positive message of hope and a plan for the future - I will give them both. I'm not a lifelong politician, but I've lived the shining light of America. I was raised in a small town in North Carolina where my father worked in a mill all his life. My life has been blessed with extraordinary success, and my story should not be an exception - it should occur across America every single day. As president, we'll provide qualified students one free year of tuition at a state university or community college if they are willing to work for ten hours a week. We'll make health insurance a birthright for every child. We'll lift up America's poor and working middle class by cutting their taxes to help them own a home, pay off their debt, and live the American dream. We'll change America by putting Washington back on the side of the people, and not the special interests. I will never let an Attorney General like John Ashcroft take away our civil liberties, and I will pursue a foreign policy that makes America stronger, safer, and more secure. The American people know that our best days are in front of us. If you want a president who believes that too, I ask for your vote.

Dear Californian, I am running for president because I believe Americans deserve better than George Bush. Every proposal I am making and every idea I am advancing has a single, central purpose: to revive a failing economy, create jobs and give working Americans the help and the security they need to make the most of it, on their own. As president, I will repeal the Bush tax cuts and use that money to get every American covered with quality health insurance that can never be taken away. I have an energy plan that will create two million jobs and will make us independent of Persian Gulf oil. And I will create a Teacher Corps that will pay the college loans of those students who agree to teach where we need them for five years. I led the fight in Congress to pass the Brady Bill and the assault weapons ban to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. As president, I'll protect a woman's right to choose and oppose offshore oil drilling. I am proud to be supported by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Representatives Bob Matsui, Howard Berman, Lois Capps and Adam Schiff. George W. Bush's policies have failed, and it is time for him to go. I have the experience, the vision and the support in key states, where it counts most, to defeat him. If you want a strong economy and a candidate who can beat Bush this November, I urge you to support me.

George Bush has taken us in the wrong direction because he cares more about special interests than about the needs of ordinary Americans. John Kerry will stand up to the special interests to change America. In his first 100 days as President, John Kerry will: Roll back George Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans so we can invest in education and health care; Take on the health insurance companies to lower costs and make affordable healthcare available to every American; Stop polluters from weakening the Clean Air Act and stand up to the oil companies to make America independent of Mideast oil; Attack corporate corruption and end the special interest feeding frenzy in Washington; Declare an end to George Bush's go-it-alone foreign policy, win the peace in Iraq, and make America safer, stronger, and more secure. From Silicon Valley to the Central Valley to the San Fernando Valley, Californians are hurting because George W. Bush has favored tax cuts for the wealthy and special favors for the special interests over what's fair for middle class Americans. This Administration's motto really should be "no special interest left behind." But California's working families are getting left in the dust. As a decorated Vietnam War veteran, as a local prosecutor, and as a United States Senator, John Kerry has put his country first. And as our next President, John Kerry will put America back on track.

I am running for President to inspire America to take new path, a different direction. I envision an America which has the capacity to reconnect with the heart of the world; an America which proceeds in the world optimistically and courageously. An America which understands that the world is interdependent, that it is inter-connected. I am running for President to break the shackles of fear which have deprived our citizens of rights. I am running for President to change the way this country values humanity, so that instead of fear and lies, we can live our lives based on principles of peace and hope. We need to regain the trust of the American people and we need to have a government which trusts the American people. It's time for America to resume its glorious journey: time to reject shrinking jobs and wages, disappearing savings and rights; time to reject the detour towards fear and greed. It's time to look out upon the world for friends, not enemies; time to counter the control of corporations over our politics, our economy, our resources, and mass media. It's time for those who have much to help those who have little by maintaining a progressive tax structure. It's time to tell the world that we wish to be their partner in peace, not their leader in war. Most of all, it is time for America to again be the land where dreams come true because the government is on the side of its people.

We face the terminal phase of the worst global monetary-financial crisis since 1928-1933. The conditions which the next President must face are worse than those Franklin Roosevelt faced in March 1933, especially in basic economic infrastructure, but the same outlook expressed by that President could rescue us from the presently onrushing collapse. My job as President, will be to extricate us from the spread of needless wars, rebuild our collaboration for the common good with other nations, and launch a general economic recovery in the physical conditions of life of individuals and families within the U.S.A. I will stimulate our economic recovery through launching urgently needed public investment in basic economic infrastructure, accompanied by matching government action to return us to being the leading producer-economy of the world, as we were during the immediate decades following the last world war. I will reestablish a fixed-rate international monetary system, launch urgently needed programs in categories of generation and distribution of power, attack the vicious and worsening water crisis, recreate a modern mass-transportation system, replace the HMO system with a revived Hill-Burton law, and return our nation to a good system of public education.

I love America. For the opportunities it's given me, the values we represent, and the strength of our people. But our country is hurting - and hurting for leadership. This Administration has put our men and women in danger in post-war Iraq and squandered our moral leadership around the world. At home, the middle class is squeezed - by rising healthcare and college costs, and retirement funds shaken by corporate corruption. Our environment has been sold out to special interests. The deficit is sky high. And we're at the mercy of foreign oil producers. We've got to move forward to meet the challenges of the times. As President, I will create 10 million new jobs - and cut taxes for 98 percent of taxpayers to ease the squeeze on the middle class. I will create a national paid family leave plan so that all across America, workers can take care of a newborn baby or sick relative without losing their entire paycheck. I will provide access to affordable health insurance to every American - and start by giving every child access to affordable health insurance at birth. I will crack down on corporate crime - and take on the polluters that this Administration is letting off the hook. And I will face down terrorism and tyranny around the world - while making America respected again by our allies. We need a President who will lead with integrity. We may not always agree, but you'll never doubt my motives. That's the kind of President I will be.

I am running for president of the United States because I believe in inclusion, hope and new ways to resolve old problems. I have the experience, ability and ideas to heal and renew America. In all my public service - as a federal prosecutor, county administrator, state representative, U.S. senator and U.S. ambassador - I have broken down barriers, built bridges and brought people together to achieve solutions in the public interest first. Through partnerships for peace, prosperity and progress we will renew the American dream of freedom and opportunity. We will reject the bluster and bravado that has so soured our international alliances, and rebuild our global relationships. We will lift up the hearts of the American people. We will inspire hope. We will renew the American Spirit. Without increasing spending, we can provide health security emphasizing wellness, restoring the provider/patient relationship and maintaining a high quality of care. Embracing a single payer system that does not depend on employment will provide universal health coverage, boost our international competitiveness, stimulate our domestic economy, and let workers keep more of their pay. We can improve education while empowering parents and teachers to pursue excellence and innovation. Our national interest is bound up in providing quality public education for every child. As president, I will give you an America as good as its promise. My record shows that I tell people what I believe, do what I say and hold myself accountable. I hope my record will encourage Californians to support my candidacy.
